ARI

CES is proud to be part of the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI).  This initiative focuses on the development of high quality teaching and learning to,prepare all students with the necessary literacy skills to meet or exceed grade level standards.   At CES our K- 3 grade classes have weekly lessons lead by our ARI Reading Specialist, Amy Lowe.  Students work on grade level specific literacy skills.  Our teachers are also involved in professional development on reading and writing with the goal of increasing reading ability for all students.  Mrs. Lowe also provides intervention strategies for teachers and home resources for parents.   Dyslexia is defined as a specific learning challenge that is neurological in origin.  It impacts the student in the areas of phonics, reading, writing and spelling.  CES provides a structured screening process in accordance with the Alabama Administrative Code.  Students that are identified with characteristics of dyslexia are provided with a multi sensory language approach to intervention.  Teachers at CES have receive professional development on dyslexia and teaching strategies that benefit all learners.  Mrs. Amy Lowe is the CES dyslexia contact.  If you have questions or need additional information about dyslexia please reach out to Mrs. Lowe.
